Rhian Kivits

  1. Please Introduce yourself, what is your name, business name, where you are from?

My name’s Rhian, I’m from Looe in Cornwall, UK and my business is RhianKivits.com

  1. What is your business about?

I’m a Conscious Dating & Relationship Consultant, Love & Intimacy Mentor and Founder of The Soulmate Success System.

I work with clients (mostly women and couples) from all over the world online using my unique blend of psychotherapeutic techniques and mind-body-soul wisdom.

My mission is to help successful, ambitious women become just as fearless, magnetic and lucky in love. I believe that we all deserve to enjoy purposeful relationships that add value to our lives, supportive partners who desire to learn, grow and expand alongside us and intimate connection that helps us feel fully self expressed on every level.

I work 1:1 with clients on a bespoke basis under my Love Lessons service or Soulmate Success System. This might involve solving specific sex or relationship issues, learning how to enjoy intimacy more, navigating the dating game or heavier issues, like recovering from a painful past, divorce or abuse in order to move forward.

I also run holistic group programs for women online on topics like women’s sexual healing, sensuality, self love and orgasmic manifestation! We need to learn how to heal and love ourselves because ultimately we are our own Soulmates as a starting point.

  1. What made you get into this line of business?

If you wind the clock back on my own life about 12 years or so, I was living a city life stuck in unfulfilling, demanding jobs and trapped in a dysfunctional marriage with no compatibility or true connection. I was carrying so many burdens from my own past and struggling to be a good mum to my children. Although I had a level of professional success and on the outside it looked like I had a good life, underneath I was struggling to cope. My mental health was suffering, I felt lonely, numb and empty and I’d chosen a partner who was never going to be able to meet my needs.

I woke up to the fact that things had to change. Essentially I knew that it was my responsibility to change my situation and my emotional state. I started to become interested in holistic healing and quit my miserable job to start my own spiritual business as a complementary therapist. As I learned new skills and started to open up to the world of emotion and energy, I was on my own personal journey of healing and awakening which helped me learn the value of inner work and personal growth.

Eventually, I qualified as a psychodynamic couple therapist and took training in sex therapy. I knew my mission was to help other people enjoy better relationships, not only with partners, but with themselves too. I explored alternative approaches to relationships like Tantra and Taoism. I began to combine all my knowledge so that I could work on every level – mind, body and soul.

  1. What makes you get up and go in the morning, do you have a morning power routine?

I’m a busy mum with children so my mornings usually start with them. We live by the sea, so I always take some mindful breaths of ocean air when taking the children to school – it’s informal, but this really is a power routine! I also try to do something to motivate and balance myself each morning too. This can vary – it may be a spot of self-healing with Reiki or Egyptian Seichem, it may be a meditation, it may be journaling or gratitude practice.

  1. What is the best advice you have ever been given?

I love the Reiki principles, which each start with ‘Just for today’. I feel we put a lot of pressure on ourselves as entrepreneurs to improve and perform and sometimes this can be stressful or cause anxiety. But when I remind myself to do the best I can in my life, my work or as a mum, step by step, ‘just for today’, I know that I can be present in the here and now, and that I can trust myself to take care of tomorrow when it comes. As I’ve struggled with anxiety from a young age, I find this approach really supportive. I believe in being kind and compassionate with ourselves.

  1. What is a book you would say everyone must read?

Women who run with the wolves by Clarissa Pinkola Estes

This is a fabulous, powerful book filled with inspiring stories of feminine strength. Plus it’s written by a psychoanalyst – so it speaks to my soul and my love of symbolism as well as my professional side.

  1. Does your business have any offers on at present or coming up?

I have a free download I’d love to offer: bit.ly/soulmateguide

It’s my simple system that shows you exactly how to harness the emotional power of chakra affirmations so that you can attract soulmate love.

The guide is ideal for any woman who’s looking to find a new soulmate partner or who’d like to deepen her connection with her existing partner.

  1. What one thing do you do to change your mindset instantly?

I’ve learned from my experience of tantric bodywork and taoist approaches that when we activate our Chi (our life force energy) we create a positive, helpful body chemistry that can make us feel more energised and banish those negative thoughts that make us feel sluggish or demotivated.

I raise my Chi through shaking meditation or 10 minutes of dancing to uplifting music.

  1. What do you love most about helping others?

I absolutely love seeing the impact of my work on my clients. They tell me how I’ve helped them turn around failing relationships, find freedom from their past abuse or discovered confidence after a lifetime of hiding away. This really makes my heart sing – it’s such a fabulous feeling to know that you’ve touched someone’s life and they’re happier or more successful as a result.

I also appreciate that I’m constantly learning from my clients because human beings are so diverse and my work is so fascinating. It’s a true privilege to get to know people so well, and to understand more about myself in the process.

  1. Your favourite quote?

Lovers don’t finally meet somewhere – they are in each other all along – Rumi

I adore this quote because it creates such a beautiful image. Love is meant to be and I really believe we all deserve to experience it. I believe when two people form a deep, loving relationship what they create together is bigger than the sum of its parts and that it is through experiencing love that we can expand into our highest potential. And the journey to finding love is also about finding ourselves. Be it to see it, as they say!

  1. What is your business about?

I help parents create calm in the home and get back to enjoying parenting and move on from focusing on the daily stresses of parenthood, I work 121 with mums who feel stuck and who are struggling to get the emotional balance in life and I also work with teens and children to support their understanding of their emotions and the connection to their thoughts and to realise the power they have inside of them to navigate smoothly through life……. and breath! ha

  1. What made you get into this line of business?

I basically found myself at an all time low, struggling to find joy in parenting, struggling to find joy in life and dealing with my husband who at the time was facing some issues with his own mental health all while running my own business and having four kids.

I woke up one day and realised there was more to life and set off to find it and in doing so I felt inspired to help anyone who has ever felt like I used to.

I was also inspired to work with children as my husbands mental health issues plus my lack of lustre for life had a knock on effect in my children’s life – which I am so happy to have turned around.

  1. What makes you get up and go in the morning, do you have a morning power routine?

I get up in the morning because I love my life. I love my home, I love my work, I love my family and I have finally found my inner joy.

My morning routine consists of mentally noting my appreciation and gratitude for everything in my life and the things to come, I take 10 full in breaths and full out breaths and I pull a card from my keepers of the light deck for guidance…. Then I have ten gallons of coffee

  1. What is the best advice you have ever been given?

I tend to listen to my own intuition and rarely seek advice from others so this is a hard question to answer, I suppose an ex boss once said to me that what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger and my interpretation of that was that nothing in life is worth loosing your inner peace over, you can also find a solution when you tackle a problem with love and understanding.

  1. What is a book you would say everyone must read?

F**k It Therapy

  1. Does your business have any offers on at present or coming up?

I am opening up my mama and me positive living academy for enrolments. The academy focuses on the whole picture, mums mindset and emotional balance, parenting and supporting your child with their emotional needs. Its a six week academy with weekly training, activities, guidance and support – and by the end of the course you will have a new, clear and peaceful approach to parenting and life and you will be able to support your children to achieve the same.I love this academy, I have poured my heart and soul into it, I focused on how I felt in the past, my children have given their input and I have worked with lots of mums as guinea pigs  to fine tune the content and its amazing!

  1. What one thing do you do to change your mindset instantly?

Breath work, it instantly changes your emotional state. Full in breath and full out breath.

  1. What do you love most about helping others?

The moment I see a light bulb go off and my clients whole body language changes, like they have just found their own joy – I love that.

  1. Your favourite quote?

My favourite quote is – ‘All we are is pure joy, peace and wisdom with the power to create the illusion we are not’

Karin Houston

  1. Please Introduce yourself, what is your name, business name, where you are from?

My name is Karin, I’m from Fife in Bonnie Scotland (once you get past the rain and 6 days of sunshine a year…..it is kind of Bonnie). I am a mum to 6 and the CEO, cleaner, skivvy and boss lady of Beauty Bath Junkie.

2. What is your business about?

I make Bath Bombs mostly, but am venturing into new territory with soaps and other pamper products in the New Year. I started 3 years ago with a £50 investment (after the tax man very kindly gave me a refund). I started to sell online bath bombs sourced from suppliers, and after a few weeks friends approached me asking if they could sell them too. It kind of went from there – in year two after a series of let downs and bad quality from suppliers I decided I could do better and I got myself on the journey to making my own bath bombs. I now have well over 100 cosmetic safety assessments and hand paint a lot of our products, which sell all over the UK via a network of brand reps.

3. What made you get into this line of business?

I believe the universe was responsible for this……I was a police officer and I guess my career was mapped out…..13 years service and pension forecast sorted, but a series of events in 2014 /2015 conspired to knock me for 6. In 2015 after a particularly bad week, I had a breakdown at work…..a complete “omg look at the snotters running from her nose” scenario as I sobbed uncontrollably for an hour.

I left that day and never went back. From being a confident, healthy police officer, I turned into a hairy hermit who suffered severe anxiety attacks in a daily basis. I left the house only to go to the Docs and counselling. I became smelly, unkempt and exhausted and I really didn’t know how to pull myself out of it. A year later, I was online when it suddenly hit me that working online was the way to go. I had done some network marketing prior to this as a sideline but I needed a job – a job that didn’t require me to get out of PJs or leave the house. I look back now at “snottergate” and realise how far I have come, and I actually don’t have to plait armpit hair and actually get dressed every day now!

4. What makes you get up and go in the morning, do you have a morning power routine?

Passion of creating makes me get up (and 2 twin terrorists who can’t be in the same room without arguing). I work every day and even when I decide to take a day off, I’m on my phone with our brand reps or wholesale customers so I’m never really off duty. I start the day with a coffee, check emails and messages and try to listen to a you tube video that is motivational or inspiring. Les brown is an absolute favourite.

5. What is the best advice you have ever been given?

Really two pieces of advice that go hand in hand – the first being – you can’t please everyone. In the early days I tried to……I was running about like a headless chicken trying to make everyone happy and then one day it hit me……..some people will never be happy no matter what you do. Once I had accepted that, it became a lot easier. The second piece of advice is – celebrate the positive and forget the negative. What a game changer!! I choose to dwell on successes, happy times and positive…….when I get a “blip” in that run, I learn from it and literally package it up and throw it away.

48391665_583695568741061_4687369080259215360_n

5. What is a book you would say everyone must read?

Wow so many helped me on my journey to recovery but i love audio books and one I listened to so so many times was “you are a badass”.

6. Does your business have any offers on at present or coming up?

Our brand reps have always got offers on on products or hampers and we have a free sign up on January 6 for people looking to join us.

7. What one thing do you do to change your mindset instantly?

Music – it has to be cranked up and you HAVE to sing along and / or dance! I have a voice like a strangled moggy but I still love singing.

8. What do you love most about helping others?

It is the best feeling EVER! It’s like a smooth, creamy, hot chocolate with marshmallows for the soul.

“if you say you can or can’t – you are right”. It sums it right up. YOU are responsible for the outcome.

Charlie Edwards

1. Please Introduce yourself, what is your name, business name, where you are from?
Hey there, my Name is Charlie I am a psychic medium and intuition mentor and creator of Goddess Gathering Retreats and Workshops. I was born and raised in Bristol UK. I now live with my own family in Yorkshire. You can find me anywhere on Social Media under the name ‘That Girl Charlie Edwards’.
2. What is your business about?
I have been reading cards for almost 15 years now. This opened a door for me to encourage and support other women in their path as they grow and move through its different stages. Once I began doing this professionally clients would always ask for further guidance, How they could work with their intuition? What did I mean by self-care and how could they implement it in their lives? This is why I started creating workshops, podcasts and books. For centuries we have been taught to ignore our intuition and to put others first. I believe by teaching others how to tap into this and encouraging women to look after themselves and trust their sacred guidance system we can rise together and build a better world.
3. What made you get into this line of business?
I’ve always been psychic, although at a young age I thought it was all purely coincidence. As I got older I realised not everyone can tune into things I can, well not without some practice anyway. Its grown from there.
I think I am my business. I’m a natural fixer. If someone comes to me with a problem, the first question is what is this teaching us/you? and Secondly, what can we do to move forward? I’m not the type of person my friends call for a pity party. The cards were the beginning I then went on to become a Reiki healer. The mentoring, workshops and gatherings have grown from there.
44051335_10155690934245598_728673542870138880_n
4. What makes you get up and go in the morning, do you have a morning power routine?
O.M Goddess everyone needs a morning routine. How you start your day sets the tone. I use a mixture of morning routines that I’ve picked up over the years and moulded into something that now works for me.  I highly recommend the book Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod for anyone looking for a way to get their butt out of bed and change their mindset and life for the better.
5. What is the best advice you have ever been given?
Good Question. Do you know I’m not sure? I’ll tell you the piece of advice I give to everyone though. Choose your F-Word Wisely. Just when you think you are f***ed turns out you just gotta have faith that it will work out. The Universe is always listening and you must remember it always working for you not against you. If there is a roadblock it’s because the universe has something better for you.
28167260_880272868799360_5656268483415285183_n
6. What is a book you would say everyone must read?
Oh without a doubt its Ask and it is Given By Ester Hicks & Abraham. This book changed my life.
7. Does your business have any offers on at present or coming up?
I’m about to launch my goal setting workbook and then next spring my book is being published. There are always offers sent out with my monthly Newsletter. I haven’t decided this months offer yet. I have some amazing followers. So I always make sure they have a discount code. Being of service and grateful is essential.
8. What one thing do you do to change your mindset instantly?
Oh gosh, there are so many things you can do. Music is the easiest one. Put your favourite high vibe song on really loud and dance like a loon around the room. It shakes off those low vibes and gives you the good feels. If that’s not an option then think of 5 things that you are grateful for. If you struggle with this then think of smaller things. The more you do it the easier it becomes. There is always something to be grateful for.
9. What do you love most about helping others?
I love to see my clients living the life they were wishing for. Sometimes its small changes, sometimes its big changes. The part I love the most are the emails I get from Clients with photos of them travelling or in their new job. Or when I wake up to a simple Thank you message for a reading I sent out the night before. It’s the best feeling to help another.
10. Your favourite quote?
‘Your Crown has been Bought and paid for. All you must do is put it on’ – Maya Angelo.
I have this above my desk to remind me every day that women have fought for me to be where I am today. And that we no longer have to apologise for who we are. Just focusing on what is rising in us.

Danielle Grant

  1. Please Introduce yourself, what is your name, business name, where are you from?

My name is Danielle Grant, my business name is Your Mindset Mentor and I am from Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada

  1. What is your business all about?

My business is all about helping entrepreneurs understand their thoughts, where they are from, how to heal them and how to develop a healthy positive inner dialogue that aligns with their goals and dreams.

  1. What make you get into this line of business?

After years of working on and in my own mindset and working with many entrepreneurs I came to find what was really holding them back from moving forward and it was in alignment with what I was learning personally.

  1. What makes you get up and go in the morning, do you have a morning power routine?

What makes me get up and go in the morning is knowing that when someone plugs into my content, systems, and coaching there lives are changed forever. I do have a morning power routine and it looks something like this…. Drink water, brush teeth with opposite hand, 15 minutes meditation, journal and affirmations, stretch, breakfast.

  1. What is the best advice you have ever been given?

All the support you will ever need is within you. It is up to you to feel it, listen to it, and believe it.

  1. What is a book you would say everyone must read?

The Aladdin Factor by Jack Canfield

  1. Does your business have any offers on at present or coming up?

My signature 6 week UpLevel Program will be opening enrollment in Jan 2019

  1. What one thing do you do to change your mindset instantly?

Journal out what is bothering me so that I can have an inner conversation to work my way through the block.

  1. What do you love most about helping others?

Seeing the change they’ve been working on internally start to be reflected externally.

  1. Your favourite quote?

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine as children do. It’s not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own lights shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” – Marianne Williamson

Teri Gosselin

  1. Please Introduce yourself, what is your name, business name, where you are from?

Teri Gosselin

Business Title/Name:Transformational Strength Coach + Healer/ Teri Gosselin Coaching

Location: Maryland, USA

  1. What is your business about?

As a Transformational Strength Coach + Healer,  I help women who have suffered great loss (whether it be loss of a loved one, loss of self, loss of passion) truly embrace their authenticity at their soul essence, enabling them to discover their strength within to persevere and heal from the inside out.

I want to help as many women as possible feel safe to share their authenticity, receive the gentle encouragement and guidance they need, and understand that they are stronger than they know, that hope is possible and that they can truly live a beautiful life after loss!

  1. What made you get into this line of business?

After enduring the sudden loss of my brother, three weeks before my wedding day, I soon lost who I was, consumed by anxiety and overwhelm, and deep sadness. My ten-year long healing journey has been a long and bumpy one, and after years of therapy, intense inner work with coaches, and exploration and expansion of my soul, my spirituality and my gifts, I am so grateful to be able to help other amazing women on their own healing journey.

My goal is to help women embark on their healing journey much sooner than I was able to, to rediscover who they are, what lights their soul on fire, and that they are meant for a beautiful life after loss, and all on their own divine timing. Healing work is very deep, sacred and personal – I don’t take that for granted, and appreciate the trust so many women have in me to support them on their own journey.

IMG_1466

  1. What makes you get up and go in the morning, do you have a morning power routine?

My kids, usually 😉 They are our alarm clocks!

However, the thought of a new day to inspire, to motivate, to give hope to those who feel hopeless, is what gets me up and moving!

My morning power routine usually includes some quiet time listening to podcasts or ebooks for further development, and gratitude. A life full of gratitude allows a conscious presence in the moment, and that is where the magic of life happens!

  1. What is the best advice you have ever been given?

The best advice that I was ever given, and I still use each day for myself and my clients, is “To Be Gentle With Yourself.”

This statement may sound simplistic, however when I received this beautiful sentiment from a former boss after I had lost my brother, it spoke volumes to me.

It gave me the permission I needed to feel into the grief I was enduring.

To know it is more than ok to have these feelings and understand what they are.

To love myself through it anyhow.

That these feelings are due to the great loss I had experienced, the loss of my past, my present and my future.

That to be gentle with myself was all I could do in that moment, and that was enough.

To this day, I think of this gift of advice often. I share this regularly with my community and clients as reminder to bring themselves back to the present, to give themselves permission to feel what they are going through, and to remind them how much strength it takes to do so.

IMG_9096

  1. What is a book you would say everyone must read?

Brene Brown’s “Braving the Wilderness” spoke to my soul deeply. Like an intimate call to show up more vulnerable and courageous, all while connecting with others, which in turn has been a significant component on how I have grown my business. I give my community and clients permission to do this, all the while, I am actively doing the same.

  1. Does your business have any offers on at present or coming up?

Yes! My new six month 1:1 program has launched, and I am so thrilled to share it with you!

If you are:

Ready to dance with your shadows and uncover the stories of your past, your grief, your trauma, so that you have a conscious awareness of old patterns and can actively work to release those emotions and truly embrace your self-worth and value in this world.

Ready to realign your energetic connection through opening any blocked chakras (emotional blocks) so that you can reignite your truest essence and heal from the inside out.

Ready to lead with your heart, allowing you to love yourself after loss, and serving as beacon of hope to others that a beautiful life can continue after loss.

Ready to eliminate guilt by setting healthy boundaries with personal and professional relationships, career, time and social life so that you can priorities YOUR needs, wants and desires, and create the inner peace you seek so deeply.

Ready to release the pressure to be perfect so that you can live a fuller life and discover the pieces of yourself that have gone missing, particularly in the form of play, happiness, and contentment.

Ready to give permission to and of yourself to own who you are, and what you want in life, speak your truth and know your story is worth loving, and will bring you a sense of freedom.

Ready to recognise and embrace your own inner strength and resilience on your healing journey to not only persevere but to thrive and live a purpose-driven life.

Ready to truly honour the journey you have been on so that you can shift and reconstruct your thoughts and perceptions, and open your mind and heart to expansion and opportunity.

Ready to reignite the passion and fire within your soul so that you are inspired to dream again and take action on creating this into your reality.

Then *The Journey to Inner Peace* is the program for you!

Just as your journey is personal, so is this program!

  1. What one thing do you do to change your mindset instantly?

Deep breathing! I can centre myself back to the moment, drop into my body, and allow myself to simply just be. This does wonders!!

  1. What do you love most about helping others?

Can I say everything? It warms my heart when I see women breaking through the shadows, their fears, their past, in order to find themselves again. To come back to love!

It takes great strength and courage to embark on a healing journey, and when women show up to do so, it is the most beautiful event I have ever witnessed. The unbecoming of ourselves to become ourselves is truly the greatest gift one could ever give themselves.

Sophie Coltburn

1.Please Introduce yourself, what is your name, business name, where you are from?

My name is Sophie Coltburn, I am the founder of Mindsoulness and I’m from South coast UK.
2. What is your business about?

Mindsoulness is about using our mindset to heal and help ourselves and others. To manage things like anxiety, overwhelm and procrastination, to increase our success in our relationships and businesses and most importantly to experience more joy in our lives. We look at all types of methods of mindset work, from the very practical and physical, to the more esoteric and spiritual.
3. What made you get into this line of business?
I come from a professional career in Graphic Design. I was set on that path from age 15, but after a couple of years in the industry I suffered a huge loss in our family and it shifted my perspective on everything. It took me a few years of trying different companies and design roles to realise that office/employee work really wasn’t for me and I couldn’t stay feeling so trapped every day.
I started listening to podcasts and videos by people like Tony Robbins, Lewis Howes, Marie Forleo and Tim Ferris and learned about being an entrepreneur. I craved more freedom and wanted to do something that lit me up and allowed me to do more in my life.
Mindsoulness seemed to be a seed of something planted in my mind one night and it’s taken me a few years of hard work to understand what it is. I know it’s bigger than me, which can be daunting, but exciting at the same time.
4. What makes you get up and go in the morning, do you have a morning power routine?
I don’t really have any issues getting up in the morning now that I don’t have to go to an office! I also work at home with my husband so we tend to just get up and have breakfast together before starting work.
5. What is the best advice you have ever been given?
I don’t know if you’d call it advice, but there are a few core things that have helped me massively these past years.
1. Practice gratitude daily. It makes ALL the difference to your mindset and health.
2. Every moment is a new moment to start fresh.
3. You are the co-creator of your life. Take responsibility and recognise excuses for what they are.
6. What is a book you would say everyone must read?
Oh thats tough. I often recommend “You are a Baddass” and “You are a Badass at Making Money” by Jen Sincero
7. Does your business have any offers on at present or coming up?
I have a couple of openings for working on mindset with me 1:2:1 and I’m in the process of creating a course around managing anxiety and overwhelm.
8. What one thing do you do to change your mindset instantly?
I think gratitude is one of the key things. Anytime I start slipping into negative thoughts that aren’t useful for emotional processing*, I think of things I’m thankful for and focus on the feelings of joy and gratitude.
* some negative thoughts can be processed and helpful to heal, but many are just fear getting in the way.
9. What do you love most about helping others?
I love seeing the changes that happen so fast. I’m always blown away by the speed at which the ladies I work with change their mindset, attitude and consequently their lives.
10. Your favourite quote?
“Change your thoughts and you change your world” – Norman Vincent Peale

Carol Moses

My name is Carol Moses and 9 months ago after spending most of my adult life as an actress. I became my own boss when I set up PORTOBELLO TOM. I want to give you a quick insight as to why Portobello Tom exists and why I now make affirmation bracelets alongside my European charm bracelets.

My story:

A West Londoner through and through, I grew up near Portobello Road where as kids we used to call jewellery ‘Tom’ hence the name Portobello Tom.

My mother was a ‘gym slip mum’ and too young to handle the responsibility of raising a child so my grandmother brought me up as her own with her 3 boys on a little estate in Latimer Road, West London. I’m telling you this because I want you to get an understanding of my relationship with my gran. She was my everything and I didn’t really know how to love anyone else on that kind of level until I had my first child, Akira.

16 years ago, my grandmother suddenly passed away from throat cancer even though she had never smoked a single cigarette in her whole life, go figure.

3 weeks after my grandmothers sad passing my mother and uncles decided they were going to the Caribbean to sort out my grandmother’s affairs (she had spent the last 10 years of her life living on her home Island of Dominica).

There was no question as far as I was concerned, Akira and I were going with them. Now, Akiras dad didn’t want her to go but I was adamant, she was going with me. We were going to be celebrating her 3rd birthday in Dominica and in a funny way it gave the family something to look forward to whilst there. I struggled with the guilt of that choice for years.

5 days into the trip, 6 weeks after my grandmother passed, 2 days before her 3rd birthday Akira contracted meningococcal septicaemia and died within 24 hrs of the symptoms appearing.  On February 4th 2001, my life fell apart and it has taken 16 long years to try to pull the pieces together, but pull them together I have.

Now, my story is not about how cruel life is but rather about how strong we human beings are. How amazing the human spirit is. In the pursuit of happiness and healing I’ve discovered many things. I’ve discovered happiness is a right for all.

That includes me and you. It sounds obvious, but it was something I forgot whilst battling the depression and alcohol abuse that came about as a result of losing Akira. I just didn’t know how to cope. I went into free fall, I lost my self-confidence, my faith and my long-held belief that life was supposed to be enjoyed.  When my beautiful, intelligent, spirited daughter passed away life stopped making any sense.

Over the years I found much attention was given to the victims of meningitis and the disease itself and rightly so by the way. But there is another side of the story. There is the family that is left behind when a person passes away. Aunties, uncles, siblings, grandparents, cousins and most importantly parents who now have to find a way of living the rest of their life rather than just existing as I did for many years.

We have to find a purpose, a reason to carry on breathing and living. We must remember how strong we are. Unlike most people I had to find a reason to be happy rather than just being happy. So, you see, I had to rediscover my amazingness as a matter of survival.

We are all going to go through pain at some point, but as long as we believe and hang on in there, we will always come out the other end of our journey stronger. This is why I have created the JOURNEY range. Initially I thought I was creating something specifically to reminded those who had been left behind that they are strong. That they are amazing, because walking through the fire of grief is not easy. It takes superhuman strength at times, but we can do it and come out the other end feeling blessed to have had our loved ones in our lives, no matter how short that time was.

But it has turned into a lot more, because everybody and I mean everybody needs reminding at some point of how strong they are. Not only those who have suffered bereavement but anyone who has been through, a rocky patch, anyone who has had to overcome, anyone who needs reminding they are a hero for carrying on, anyone who needs to be told to carry on because they are worth it and worthy.

The main charms I use on my Portobello Tom ‘JOUREY’ bracelet and what they represent:

I put a tree of life charm on there to remind the wearer that life is forever growing and that they are rooted to something bigger than just themselves. We are connected to a life source we must remember that.

Then there is the teardrop charm, it symbolises the tears you have cried. All stories of strength have a tear or two involved. But those tears did not stop you from moving forward. You have got from there to here. Yes, you may cry again but it will always be ok not to be ok for a time. You will make sure you get up, you will find the strength to keep moving forward…you always have.

I’ve also added a reminder to revel in your playful side in the presence of a child-like charm on the JOURNEY bracelet. Your laughter is important, the world needs it. Did you know smiling gives off positive energy? Smile.

Finally, I have a musical note or treble base. This is to remind you to talk your truth, your voice is important. When I went through my trauma I lost faith in my own voice. Everyone else’s opinion held more weight than my own, even when it came to dealing with my own life. However, we are all entitled to our own opinion and to travel our Journey as we see fit, and that’s what the musical note represents.

I will be donating 10% of the profits from the ‘Journey’ affirmation bracelets to Meningitis Now.  When I needed help in the early days of my daughter’s passing, when I just couldn’t see a future with me in it they were there for me so now I want to what I can to give back in some way.

Here’s to a wonderful life.
